Thornton le Dale Show

Wednesday 7 August 2019

Thornton-le-Dale Showground

We decided to repeat our presence at the popular Thornton-le-Dale Show this year for the second time, mainly to promote woodturning and our club, but also to offer another sales opportunity for members.

Our pitch

Keith was kind enough once again to provide gazebos, tables, demonstration lathe, TV screen, petrol generator, and items for display. A tremendous effort, and well worth it judging by the interest shown on the day.

Steady interest

The demonstration lathe attracted many viewers, and prompted a number of interesting conversations, with a handful of different club members taking turns at producing small demo pieces.

There was a good range of items sold, mainly smaller pocket money pieces, but also a couple of large table lamps, and three bowls which had been donated for club funds.

These sales have offered a major lifeline to club funds, and I would urge all members to submit items for future sales.

Bob and Keith

Bob went for the sartorial look on the day, dressed in his best shorts, sunglasses and sunhat. It was quite a good day weatherwise, though overnight rain had dampened our stall when we arrived to set up in the morning.

John Whiteley

John as always provided a large number of items for sale in the tent, and his generous donation of 50 - 50 commission helped ensure that we paid for our rent at the show, as well as making a small profit.

On top of that he stayed all day, and did a stint on the lathe, along with Keith and Steve. Thanks also to Brian who looked after sales for a while.

Thanks to everyone who called in and/or helped out on or before the day. I spotted Keith, John, Richard, Frank, Brian, Lance, Gordon, Bob, Keith, ... thanks to anyone else I may have missed!
