  • 10 September 2017 I am working on a write-up of Mick Hanbury's exellent demonstration, but in the meantime a date for our diaries: club sale at Thornton le Dale is to be 25 - 26 November. Details to follow, but do get turning to provide some stock for the sale and exhibition.

  • 16 August 2017 Apologies for the delay in information from the AGM at the beginning of the month. Busy times. To date I have made a start on the calendar for next year, with more detail to add, and there will be a write up of the AGM, including any documents that are relevant. Also the new constitution agreed in February is now on the site, apologies for not having an updated version sooner.

A varied audience, including staff popping in and out, but they appreciated the tlak and being able to see the items that Terry made and passed around. Every year, the South Auckland Woodturning Group hold an Easter Show of woodturning. The latest 2017 Show results, via the link below, show some of the stunning entries. Dick Veitch, who visits Dave Muckle’s group and Ryedale Woodturners in July this year, seems to have received a lot of top prizes! Scroll down through the images, and I’m sure you will be impressed:

  • 8 April 2017 Pictures and a write-up from Andrew Hall's excellent demonstration are now on the site.
  • 2 April 2017 I have added a sales page to the site. The intention is to advertise tools or other items club members may wish to sell, essentially to other club members, though anyone visiting the site can potentially purchase items. It is not to provide a sales vehicle for finished turned products. I think that would be too large a venture for a site like this.
I have put a dust extractor on the page to get things going.
  • 12 March 2017 A write-up with a few photos of Andrew Morby Smith's demonstration is now on the site.
  • 7 March 2017 Next month's demonstrator is Andrew Hall, well known for turning wooden hats and helmets. More recently he has been creating musical instruments which he calls "bowlkuleles". Essentially a bowl as sounding body, with a fret board and pickups for amplification. He intends to demonstrate one of these on 6 April - not to be missed!
  • 2 March 2017 A re-vamp of the site to reflect the club's change of name. We have a new domain name - www.ryedalewoodturners.org.uk and I have tried to change all the references to Snainton Woodturning Club.
  • 2 February 2017 An experimental "hands on night" at our new venue. A slightly different format to recent years, with only two lathes available, we had some short demonstrations by members, and some exhibitions of work and related items. Overall I think it worked well. Some photos are available.
  • 13 January 2017 Following our first meeting in the new venue at Snainton Village Hall, some photos and brief notes on Dave Lowe's finishing demonstration are now available on the site.
