2019 Christmas Party

Thursday 5 December 2019

The annual Christmas party this year saw a return to a cold buffet, organised and picked up by Phil Coe from Morrison's in Scarborough. I think it was a good spread - comments welcome for future reference.

Thanks to Keith for the picture quizzes, and John for the wood identification quiz and overall organisation. For those who didn't get them all, you need to remember some of the following, so that you can spot them next year: acacia, ash, blackwood, bog oak, box, cowrie, elm, hazel, iroko, jarrah, jigidee, laburnum, mallee, myrtle, oak, olive, pink ivory, purple heart, salmon gum, sycamore, tagua nut, teak, tree fern, tulipwood, walnut, wenge, yew.

Sale update

A reminder to support and promote the forthcoming sale at Thornton le Dale on 14-15 December. Bring items for sale to set up on Friday evening from 5pm. Help gratefully received Staurday and Sunday 10 -4pm.

Club competition

The competition saw a good number of entries, in the beginners and expert sections, with fewer in the intermediate, and the usual wide variety of subjects and the usual high quality. Prizes of wood tokens were sponsored by Snainton Woodworking Supplies on a 50% discount - for which many thanks.

The winners were:
Beginners – 1st - segmented bowl, Martin Weller, 2nd Cotton reel holder Martyn Weller, 3rd small bowl, Derek Quinn
Intermediate 1st Dish, Richard King, 2nd & 3rd Candlesticks, Frank Cornforth
Expert 1st Keith Harte - spinning wheel, 2nd Lamp hollow form Lance Garrard, 3rd crescent dish Lance Garrard.

Chairman's challenge.

John had handed out small blocks of iroko offcuts a couple of meetings ago, with the challenge to turn something from them. Eight pieces appeared, all different.

1st Steve Fearnley, 2nd Keith Harte, 3rd Richard King
