Ryedale Woodturners

Sue Harker

Woodturning has been a way of life since 1986, having previously been an engineer.

I am a professional woodturner, accepted on to the RPT in 2006. My work ranges from utility ware to works of art. I produce small to large items which I sell in my shop.

I have a workshop and gallery in Hutton le Hole, in the beautiful surroundings of the North York Moors National Park, next to the Ryedale Folk Museum. I share the space with my wife Wendy, who is a ceramics artist, working with kiln formed glass.

I have written a number of articles regularly for the Woodturning magazine, and also provide tuition at my workshop, tailored to the needs of the individual. I have demonstrated at the North of England Woodworking Show in Harrogate since 2008.

I like to work with native timber, mostly from tree surgeons; this allows me to choose the way it’s converted to obtain the best figuring.

In 2010 I was commissioned to make the trophies for the UCI world mounting bike event at Dalby Forest North Yorkshire.
