HANDS ON NIGHT

A slightly different evening this year, starting with an extraordinary general meeting, at which the club's finances were outlined and discussed. It was agreed almost unanimously that membership fees would rise to £35 next year (so no change until September), but evening attendance fees would remain at £5. There would be a couple more demonstrations by club members during the year. There would also be extra club sales in addition to Thornton Show and a Thornton Dale "Christmas" sale. John Whiteley is investigating a hall in Goathland during the summer visitor peak period. Commission will be 25% to the club in future, with an option to offer some items for 50% club funds if desired. Both options will be available to members.
Keith Harte
Keith was demonstrating some techniques for making multiple copies of an item, having recently made a chess set where this skill is somewhat essential.
Steve Fearnley
Steve was demonstrating his techniques for pyrography, using a standard Peter Child machine and an adapted chisel-point hot-wire stylus. He brought a few examples along. He also brought a buffing machine to demonstrate the 3-wax buffing system (Beall).
Bob Ingram
Bob brought along his stick bending and straightening jigs and tools. Here he is showing christine and Jonathan some of the finer points of making a walking stick..
John Whiteley
John brought along a large piece of wood, and some large hollowing tools to tackle it. As well as demonstrating I did actually see some people having a go in the true spirit of "hands on".

Hands on nights do provide more opportunity for conversation than demonstration nights.
