Ryedale Woodturners

2017 Club Exhibition and Sale

Saturday 25th November 2017

The third club exhibition and sale took place at Thornton le Dale Hill Institute on a cold, crisp sunny day. As with the last two exhibitions, we mounted an very impressive display of work, covering the wide variety we all know that woodturners produce. Visitors were very complimentary of the work on show.

Most tables and pieces were set out on Friday evening, and there was a steady flow of people through the door between 10 am and 4 pm on Saturday. A rough calculation at the end of the day suggested we had taken around £550, some of which will go to club funds (20% less the cost of the hall rental).

Our thanks must go once again to John Whiteley for all his exertions and expertise in this type of event, and for some of his large pieces which boosted the sales total, all of which made the event a success. Thanks also to all who exhibited items and did their stint manning the exhibition.

Rebekah Joy Plett:

"When buying from an artist/maker, you're buying more than just an object/painting. You are buying hundreds of hours of failures and experimentation. You are buying days, weeks, and months of frustration and moments of PURE JOY. YOU AREN'T JUST BUYING A THING, you're buying a piece of heart, part of a soul, a moment of someone's life. Most importantly, you're buying the artist more time to do something they are passionate about."
