Ryedale Woodturners

2016 Club Exhibition and Sale

Saturday and Sunday 17th - 18th September 2016

The second club exhibition and sale took place at Thornton le Dale Hill Institute on a weekend blessed with pleasant September weather. Once again a very impressive display of work, covering the wide variety we all know that woodturners produce, was on display over two days, 10 am until 4 pm each day.

Due to family commitments I was unable to attend during the weekend, other than to set up on Friday evening and take a few photos early Saturday morning. Takings amounte to £877, with a levy of £175 going to club funds.

Our thanks must go once again to John Whiteley for all his exertions and expertise in this type of event, which made the event a success. Thanks also to all who exhibited items and did their stint manning the exhibition.

John had a number of little notices for visitors to read on the tables, including descriptions of unusual timber, and this quote from an artist:

Rebekah Joy Plett:

"When buying from an artist/maker, you're buying more than just an object/painting. You are buying hundreds of hours of failures and experimentation. You are buying days, weeks, and months of frustration and moments of PURE JOY. YOU AREN'T JUST BUYING A THING, you're buying a piece of heart, part of a soul, a moment of someone's life. Most importantly, you're buying the artist more time to do something they are passionate about."
